Project 52: Inspired | Maryland Child Photographer

This week’s theme is inspired and is brought to you this week via a snapshot, rather than a professional portrait.

My children are still at the age that they are inspired by anyone older than them.  They look up to us and want to be like us.  Scary sometimes!

One day my daughter said, “mom, I don’t want to be a mom when I grow up anymore.”  As this had been her profession of choice for the past year or so, I thought, “oh no, what have I done to change her mind!!?”  As it turns out, in her eyes, I’m still the best mom.  She just doesn’t want to have to go to the hospital.  Oh, ok… we can handle THAT change in heart, and discuss birthing options at a later date. 😉

So as I painted my daughter’s nails this afternoon, the boys woke up and wanted their nails painted.  They’re still too young to know that it’s “girls’ stuff” and they are inspired by their big sister and want to be like her.  ‘Nuf said.

Project 52: Kitchen | Maryland Children’s Photographer

Let’s hope you don’t speak French if you cook in my kitchen!

Sucre… is sugar.

But not in my kitchen.

I got tired of keeping the large, ugly salt container on my counter and, instead of buying a salt shaker like any normal person might, I put some salt in my sugar bowl!  Et voilà, you can cook like a French chef by adding a pinch, not a shake, of salt!

If you are wondering what this has to do with being a child and family photographer in Maryland – it’s all about a personal challenge.  I have joined a group of other professional photographers around the country to interpret a theme in our own way each week.  Head on over to Nancy Schumacher, of Nancy Schumacher Photography, in Thompson, ND.

Photography Classes | Maryland Family photographer

This past Saturday I spent the day at Celebrate Mama! in Rockville, MD and met many awesome people.  What’s not to love about spending a day outdoors, meeting new people and getting to talk about my passion – photographing families and their relationships!?

In fact, I think it’s so important to document your children and life that I am teaching classes to moms and dads who just want to take better pictures of their kids and learn how to use their camera better.  I handed out information at the fair but then realized that I had not posted anything on my blog.

So here it is: my Maryland photography class information.  Scroll down for information on beginner and advanced classes as well as the different formats I use to impart you with my knowledge. 🙂

The Beginner Class:

Is your fancy digital camera still in full auto – just like it was when you first took it out of the box? Why not sign up for our beginner’s photography class and learn how to get more from your camera and take better pictures of your kids! We’ll cover:

-10 Tips for Taking Better Pictures of Your Kids
-Introduction to Exposure

-Aperture
-Training Wheels
-Using your Camera’s Basic Settings
-Lens Overview

Advanced classes cover:

Class Formats:

Private Group Class

Interested in a private group class? These are a popular class option!! Get a group of your friends together for a mom’s night out at a friend’s house, or a daytime class while the kids are at school.

The three hour group class is $95 per person with a minimum of three participants.  The class lasts for 3 hours for 3-5people, and can be extended to 4 hours for over 5 people (due to the extra questions that may come up for a larger group size). If you are interested contact me with some possible dates/times that work for you and your friends so we can coordinate the class.

Public Group Class

Do you just want to move beyond the little green box?  Got a fancy camera as a present and don’t know how to use it?  Sign up for a public group class and all you have to do is show up and learn!

The three hour group class is $125 per person and includes light refreshments.  Class size is limited to 8 students so everyone will have an opportunity to ask specific questions. Reserve your spot today!

One-on-One Class

Interested in a private individual class? The private one-on-one photography class is a great way for you to get help with your specific camera. We’ll cover the basics of what goes into an exposure, go over the features of your camera, and suggest when to use certain features of your camera to allow you to take better pictures. We’ll also cover the differences between different lenses and which lens is best during different circumstances. A three hour class at your home or mine is $250.

Date Night Class

Ok, so maybe not super romantic (ahem, I’ll be the third wheel) but fun!!  For the same price as a one-on-one class, I’ll teach you and your significant other together.  A three hour class at your home (put the kids to bed and no need to pay for a babysitter) or mine, or even a public place is $250.

To sign up for a class or for more information, call 301-965-0361 or email me (Dulcia) at roaming-reflections@usa.net.
Classes hosted by me will be in Bethesda, MD but I served the entire Washington DC metro area including Montgomery County, MD, Prince George’s County, MD and Northern Virginia.  I am also available to speak at MOPS groups.
