A New Cousin | Washington DC Newborn Photographer

This wee boy is my nephew, eight days old and wide awake!  He didn’t want to miss out on anything. Except when he fell asleep on the couch, “exhausted” from “reading” all night as you saw last week and below.  You might also remember mom and dad from their maternity photos a few weeks ago.

But he was content and sweet – the apple of his parents’ eyes.  I happen to think he’s pretty cute too, as do my children, as does everyone related (and many not related) to him!

He’s already the lady’s man – givin’ his mama a kiss!

Since these were taken in my home studio and of family, my children were around.  They really love their new cousin and wanted to be in a picture.   They weren’t exactly dressed and coiffed for a photo shoot but were sweet anyway.

Project 52: Blue | Bethesda, MD Newborn Photographer

Today’s theme is blue… well, there’s blue in his blanket! 🙂  Really, I just wanted to share a pic of my new nephew with you.

He was so exhausted after reading all those books that he had to take a nap!  He’s precocious – only seven days old and already taking after his mom who is a librarian.

A Baby Brother | Bethesda, MD Newborn Photographer

Bethesda, MD Newborn Photographer

On our crazy, cross-country trip this summer, we were privileged enough to be able to visit some good friends of ours.  This family holds a dear place in my photography heart (and real heart) as their oldest was one of my first ever photo shoots when she was 4 months old.  I also took their second daughter’s newborn pictures as well as various family photos and stages of babyhood for both along the way.  They’ve grown up behind my lens so I was excited to find out that my journey through Missouri coincided with the birth of their first boy!

He’s a sweetie and his older sisters just love him!  Be forewarned: this blog is picture heavy!  I spent all morning and bits and pieces of the afternoon chasing the perfect photos.

We started in the nursery since mom and dad (and grandma!) worked so hard to make such an amazing WWI themed room!

What a treat to be able to say, “hey grandma, can you stay just like that but come over here by the window” and poof!  Perfect picture with hardly any editing.

At one point, when chaos was ensuing inside (my kids were there too), I stole the baby and took him outside for these shots.

And, of course, many of the sweetest shost cannot be planned.  Baby fell asleep on mom’s shoulder and even smiled a bit for me. 🙂  These photos and the one of grandma are why I love lifestyle photography.  Invite me into your home, let me hang out a few hours with my camera and I’ll help you remember that precious tiny baby who is grown before you know it.  Click here to find out how to book a session.

Little Asher | Maryland Newborn Photographer

This little guy just turned one and I realized that I hadn’t blogged his newborn photos!  Wow, time flies!  So here are a few storyboards that I created as samples for mom.

Isn’t he just precious?  His skin and his lips are to die for! I love being a newborn photographer!

Stay tuned for future updates as I photographed this cutie over his first year.  I’m in the process of designing an archival quality photographic album bound on rigid pages with a custom photo cover of his first five photos shoots.  Who wouldn’t want that kind of keepsake for baby’s first year??!

Photography Classes | Maryland Family photographer

This past Saturday I spent the day at Celebrate Mama! in Rockville, MD and met many awesome people.  What’s not to love about spending a day outdoors, meeting new people and getting to talk about my passion – photographing families and their relationships!?

In fact, I think it’s so important to document your children and life that I am teaching classes to moms and dads who just want to take better pictures of their kids and learn how to use their camera better.  I handed out information at the fair but then realized that I had not posted anything on my blog.

So here it is: my Maryland photography class information.  Scroll down for information on beginner and advanced classes as well as the different formats I use to impart you with my knowledge. 🙂

Private Group Class

Interested in a private group class? These are a popular class option!! Get a group of your friends together for a mom’s night out at a friend’s house, or a daytime class while the kids are at school.

The three hour group class is $95 per person with a minimum of three participants.  The class lasts for 3 hours for 3-5people, and can be extended to 4 hours for over 5 people (due to the extra questions that may come up for a larger group size). If you are interested contact me with some possible dates/times that work for you and your friends so we can coordinate the class.

Public Group Class

Do you just want to move beyond the little green box?  Got a fancy camera as a present and don’t know how to use it?  Sign up for a public group class and all you have to do is show up and learn!

The three hour group class is $125 per person and includes light refreshments.  Class size is limited to 8 students so everyone will have an opportunity to ask specific questions. Reserve your spot today!

One-on-One Class

Interested in a private individual class? The private one-on-one photography class is a great way for you to get help with your specific camera. We’ll cover the basics of what goes into an exposure, go over the features of your camera, and suggest when to use certain features of your camera to allow you to take better pictures. We’ll also cover the differences between different lenses and which lens is best during different circumstances. A three hour class at your home or mine is $250.

Date Night Class

Ok, so maybe not super romantic (ahem, I’ll be the third wheel) but fun!!  For the same price as a one-on-one class, I’ll teach you and your significant other together.  A three hour class at your home (put the kids to bed and no need to pay for a babysitter) or mine, or even a public place is $250.

To sign up for a class or for more information, call 301-965-0361 or email me (Dulcia) at
